I seem to have stumbled back on this, but I don't have anything interesting to say. Ahh well...

Use-Free warnings
[info]voidref
The gcc maintainers have decided to add a really annoying warning to the -Wall list.

This spits out a warning about the compiler's inability to warn you about non matching format specifiers for *printf() in variable format strings.

This seems a bit stupid. It basically says "Don't use variables for format specifiers.".

Maybe if there was some way (without using C++, which I prefer anyway), to not ever need to create variable format specifiers, then the warning would mean something. As it is it just results in more flebbenge from the build.

70s HiFi?
[info]voidref
Well, I finally did it. I went and bought a Mac.

It's seems I'm really happy with it too, cause I haven't looked at my Zeta/Ubuntu machine since I got it last Saturday.

One striking thing I have noticed that I hadn't before is how much the design reminds me of the 70s HiFi equipment that I remember seeing around when I was a kid.

Anyone else notice this?

Blog for internet netrality.

Moby has a video on his site about internet neutrality, I am posting this because more people need to know about this important issue, you should too!

Keep the interenet free, man.

Well, PalmSource made me an offer of employment this week, and I went for it. The work sound quite interesting, something I can really get behind. The team I'll be working with (Headed by Marco), seems to be top-notch and a great bunch of guys.

What happened to Google? Dunnow, maybe they're just glacial in their hiring process, their loss I suppose.

My whole 1 reader (tic) is the reason I am writing this. Enjoy!

small update
[info]voidref
Hi all 0 or more of you!

Well, I left for Germany, was there a year, and came back.

Perhaps I should update a little more often, eh?

Lets hope Google works out for me.

Hamsters

I like comics. Hamsters I'm not all that fond of, but they certainly amusing when on Shaw Island.

Oh, I am so going to get a copy of this.

I have modified Charm to format using Markdown and am posting with that.

The changes do have small problems (re-editing for example), but they work pretty well. If you want my changes, let me know!

Well, I like the Register's new layout, it's way easier to read.

But I can't seem to get used to the new OSNews format, it seems a bit too cluttered, and the original content seems like advertisements instead.

Long time no post

So, this style is a bit nicer, yay!

Somehow a link to an LJ blog comment from dsandler.org linked to jonmini where I wanted to post a comment back which reminded me that I had an account here.

So there I go, a post.

See also my other postings at BeClan.org (http://www.beclan.org/blogs/index.php?author=5), if you care.

Boy, this style is pretty skanky, but I suppose that's what you get for free

Organization
[info]voidref
Well, I have missed 2 events and a Optomotrist appt this weekend, I think I -need- an organizer so this will stop happening.

Nokia has a new Phone/Organizer/WebBrowser that I am interested in. Lets see if I can find it in Japan for cheap! (proabably not).

Well, if I have any savings left over I'll see if I can get one. If not, I'll just have to hold out for a Palm or something...

*splut*

Off To Japan
[info]voidref
Well, I can't believe that it's actually going to happen.

The tickets are still up in the air (hehe), we are leaving on the 15th but may have to saty until the 24 (so sad ;). I just don't know if my vacation time will be able to stretch to then, what with the place I work for being sold off.

I already have requests for everything from fashion magazines (Dave at the Optometrest wants one) to high tech stuff that a Debian distro will run on (that's Jonathan that want that).

I think this is going to be an expensive trip.

We (Rose and I) got some guides to Tokyo that seem good. I wasn't so excited by the idea (seems like going in the summer is probably not the best time to go), but Rose really wants to go somewhere and I don't want to go anywhere else. I hate travelling. But ... the guidebooks make it look like there are some really nice places there. I'll have to see.

As Tycho says

*BAM*

Japan
[info]voidref
Wow, nothing and then 2 in one sitting!

Well, it looks like I have a chance to go to Japan and stay with a friend! Whoo! somehing cool that I can afford! (Tahoe is free, Rose's grandparents own a 'cabin' up there to stay in).

This is totally short notice and I don't know if I can pull it off. I have to figure out plans before the 24 (we have to return then, Rose finally found a job after her other place folded, but that's another story all together).

So here's the conundrum, make plans, try to keep them, pay probably too much for plane tickets, feel rushed, but stay in Tokoy and perhaps Fukouko with a native guide. -Or- blow it off and go some other time with more planning...

Stay tuned!

A long weekend
[info]voidref
Well, someone actually read my journal entry!

I had given up on this because the app had crashed when I tried to put up an entry (I don't think it was the initial one) .. hrm.

So, for joannabella:

Had a long weekend, took Monday off as well. Went up to Tahoe to go mountain biking. Ouch! I got majorly sunburned, perhaps I should stay behind the computers indoors, or perahps I should just start listening to Rose (GF) more!

Tahoe in the summer is hot, and dry, I felt like I was being constantly dessicated. I drank sooo much water (which is really good up there right out o the old tap). There isn't so much atmosphere up at 7000 ft, so the rays fried my skin. Even with spf 45, it looks like it's a good idea to contantly re-apply.

Interesting new thing I found out about on this testing list I'm a part of. Let's see if I actually use it.
